It was a night to remember! Our good friend Dorian turned 40 on Friday and his beautiful wife Hayley threw him a bash on Saturday night. It amazes me how quickly you can become friends with some people and yet it feels like you've known them all your life. We met this amazing family only 19 months ago when they moved to our small town and Dorian started working for the same company as my husband and they got on like a house on fire, of course loving rugby has binded them! Our wee girl got sick roughly 4 months after they arrived and I spent over a week in two hospitals with her and it was Dorian and Hayley that took care of my husband and son when I couldn't do it. Luke spent his days with Hayley and their son Tom (his best bud!) while Ren worked and then fed them when he was too tired and worried to cook and it was Dorian that supported him like men do in that quiet unassuming i'm there if you need me way. They are the type of people that draw friends to them, their positive attitudes and their love of laughter and having a good time and because they do the things they because "thats what friends do". So on Saturday night friends got together to celebrate the big boy turning 40 and sing a few tunes on the karaoke and eat the most wonderful food (catered by the Blue Toque Dinner) and drink Flirtinis (raspberry vodka!) Ren, who is somewhat shy got up on stage and did the Haka for Dorian as a way of showing how much Dorian means to him and I was so proud of him, it bought a tear to my eye. I have only ever seen him do that by himself once before and that was out of love too. Dorian loved it and got him all fired up, although a few of our other friends had to explain to the Canadians who had no idea why this guy was up there singing a strange language and stamping his feet and slapping his thighs! I have to admit though when you're a mother of two toddlers who doesn't often go out for a night on the town, crawling into bed at 2am felt cool and young and hip!!
