Luke began karate this year, and he really loves it. His teacher says hes good, so he really likes that too!
He had his first tournament and he was super excited ..... until we got there and then he saw new kids, lots of parents, all very official looking and became really really tentative and not sure he even wanted to do it, but he calmed down and plucked up the courage to join his team and make his mom and dad super proud of him.
He did two rounds with four fighters in each round.
The first round was point to point fighting and that means each time one of the fighters gets a point they stop and go back to their mark and start again ..... He came 2nd
The second round was continuous fighting and for a minute and a half they fight ...... He came 1st
Luke did amazing, he did get a little cocky halfway through but with a gentle reminder from his coach that he doesn't celebrate while on the mat, he got back down to business and had a blast.
This week he went for his yellow belt and he did the first part on Monday, and if he passes he will have a white belt with a yellow band on it and then in January, he will do the second half, and if he passes that two then he will get a full yellow belt. The Coach did it like this because their concentration span isn't that long and he wanted them to have fun earning their belts. We find out on Monday whether he passes. Stay tuned!
