With an abundance of metallurgical/thermal coal surrounding the town, Sparwood, BC is a picturesque resource town that holds the distinction of having the world's largest tandem dump truck.
Located in the rugged Elk Valley in the southwestern corner of BC, this monster roadside attraction in Sparwood, BC stands over 22 feet tall and weighs over 260 tons when empty. Two buses can fit in its payload bay and there's still room for cars to fit!
It was built in 1974 by General Motors and was used for years to move high-grade metallurgical coal from the world's second largest producing mine of metallurgical coal (2004).
This Terex Titan is now permanently parked beside Highway 3 along the Crows Nest Highway, the southern and slower inter-provincial highway that crosses the Canadian Rocky Mountains. It's bigger than the other large dump truck on display in Logan Lake, BC.
Sparwood, BC is located 20 minutes northeast (30 kilometers) of Fernie, BC (famous for it's skiing and Champaign powder snow) and only 18 kilometers from the Alberta border. At the junction of highway #3 and #43, you'll see this massive machine that beckons to be photographed.
